The Acropolis

We finally get to Patras, Greece and look for the train station which is super small and we almost confuse it for a bus station. The trains in Greece are really scary looking like they are going to fall apart at any minute but we made I don’t know how but we did. Actually wait we decided the first night we got there to just go to the airport and sleep there because it was late and we really didn’t want to roam around the streets late at night. So the airport was where we headed to sleep. Which we got no sleep at all and was one of the worst nights ever because I hadn’t gotten good sleep for so long and just want to cry because I needed sleep but we all just kept going on no sleep. The good news is that I found the most amazing chocolate ever… yum. It was sooo good. We get to Athens and look for our hostel just to make sure we can find it for later when we meet up with Sam and Karl. And also Jon who just left Ingolstadt a day later.

Then we head to the Acropolis. We find a place to eat but it wasn’t that great but it was food. We decide not to go up to the Acropolis and wait for everyone else so we go into this park that had the Temple of Zeus we hung out there for a while and then walked around a little bit. Found a cool fountain and then went to the park and took a nap. In the park there was “Turtle pond” or so I called it because there were turtles in it. And then we found this market that went on forever with souvenir shops that had basically all the same things. Then we found food and headed back to the hostel to meet up with everyone else. We basically accomplished nothing the whole day. When we got to the hostel no one was there yet so we went to our room and slept. Then Sam and Karl came we got some food with them and decide to go to the new Olympic stadium which was pretty cool because it was the most recent one. We take picture but it was dark out and too late to get into the indoor track which is what Karl really wanted to see so we decided we would come back tomorrow morning.

Everywhere you walk in Greece some guy would say something to Sam and I every time we walked alone. We were talking to these guys on a train and he thought we were sisters and asked us out for coffee but of course we declined. We were with the others just not sitting by them. I just laugh because I can’t believe these guys think they really have a chance. But whatever. They were just really weird there we would go into a store and they would say oh you’re so sweet I love you. I didn’t feel comfortable alone in that city but all was okay.

The next day we went to the Olympic stadium and got to actually go on the track and Karl did a lap and I walked on the grass barefoot. It was really cool. Just to think that 3 years earlier all the Olympians were where I was standing was crazy. Then we walked around the Olympic stadium again to see better. Then we headed to the acropolis. I didn’t go up to it but everyone else did. I just relaxed outside of it and ended up getting sunburn. It was super hot. Then everyone got out and we headed to the park and Zeus’s temple again for everyone to see. Then we walked across town to the first Olympic stadium ever.

Then we just went back to the hostel and Mitch, Sam, and I stayed behind while everyone else went out to eat. We had a good conversation on the balcony we had and we talked about every random topic. It was fun. And than Sam and Karl were getting ready to head out because they were headed east. They leave and the next day Mitch and I have to leave because his sister is coming and I am going to Carsten’s. Hannah and Jon stay behind to go to the beach because they are not on a schedule.

So Mitch and I head back to Patras to catch to ferry back to Italy. Which was worst than the first one and was super boring. But I met some Bulgarians but once they found out that I was traveling with Mitch they left me alone.. Which was good. I also borrowed this Greek girl toothpaste and she was really nice. Other than that not much.
