So, the dreaded wake up call happens at 4.30am, giving us a chance to get ourselves organised in time for Denny to take our bags to the top of Esperas at 5.30am, in time for the taxi which had been booked at 5.45am.
As with our arrival in Santorini, the lack of taxis available became evident when we shared our taxi with another couple, also heading out to the airport. The drivers are on a pretty good wicket though - while we had been quoted 25 Euro as a couple as the standard rate to the airport or port, you can be sure that the fact that we shared with another couple didn't halve the fare... No, we still had to each pay the full fare, the taxi driver effectively doubling his income.
From there it was a quick flight to Athens, getting in just after 8.00am. From there we were due to reconnect with Singapore Airlines to Singapore, however that flight didn't leave until 2.00pm and so it was a bit of a waiting game at the airport before check-in opened at 10.30am.
At check-in we again advised that we had put a request in for bulkhead row seats, however this time the Singapore Airlines staff finally informed us that no such request was in the system.... Why didn't that surprise us?!!! It certainly explained a lot. They did, however, manage to get us into a bulkhead row - by upgrading another passenger - sigh.
