Amsterdam, where do I begin... Before me & Mike arrived in Amsterdam, we both agreed that it didn't seem like our kind of place but a city we had to visit anyway. We were both extremely suprised at how wrong we were & how much the city has to offer.
Of course there are the famous qualities that tourists flock here for, like the legalised canabis coffee shops, the magic mushroom stores & of course the red light district. But the things we loved about Amsterdam were the things that you don't really hear about, like the circling canals that cover the city, the beautiful shop lined streets, the amazing history, & the relaxed & buzzing atmosphere of the locals & tourists.
The city is covered in millions of push bikes & all the streets have bicycle lanes. Bicylcles seem to have priority over cars on the road & as a pedestrian you need to be extremely careful not to get run down by one of the crazy riders.
During our stay in Amsterdam, we took a free guided walking tour of the city. This was a fantastic experience, as we saw things we probably never would have otherwise. We also learnt an aweful lot about the history & traditions of the city & how it became the unique & liberal Amsterdam that it is today :)
