So I'm not actually in Amsterdam now, but I was for about an hour and a half and I wanted to put it on my map.

The trip was great, until we got delayed an hour and sent on a longer route between Memphis and Detroit.  We landed just after nine and I ran onto the plane after they announced the final boarding, but I did get on.  Didn't really sleep much, but I watched the sun rise over the Atlantic at about 2 in the morning (Austin), and it was gorgeous.  I dozed, but never more than a few minutes at a time, so all in all, I believe I've been awake just over 30 hours.  My mind has been running a hundred miles an hour, but  I bet I can get it to stop now.

Amsterdam was gorgeous from the sky, laced with water.  I was on the aisle on the way into Greece, but the bits I saw were just like the tourist agency pictures.  The airport is outside of Athens, but I know Porto Rafti is beautiful.  We went on a walk tonight to help fight the jet lag.  We walked down to the Aegean.  There were little boats everywhere, and there's a free beach up the way.  He said past that there are some German bunkers.  I will definitely walk that beach more before I leave.

The hotel is absolutely wonderful.  I'm rooming with Niki, as planned, and we basically have an apartment with two other girls: two bedrooms, bathroom (where you have to put toilet paper in the trash, absolutely do not flush it!), a living room with tv, another room with a small table on the side (dining room?) and a galley kitchen.  And two balconies!  I'll have lots of pictures coming soon.

I'm going to run shower with someone else's soap here, and go to bed.  Somehow, in the rush at Detroit I suppose, my luggage got left.  And no, I didn't pack clothes in my carry on.  Or toothpaste or anything liquid.  However, I do have a toothbrush and my medicine.  They tell me if it's not here within 24 hours, they give me 100 euros to buy what I need.  Until then I have a little pack with a shirt, a toothbrush, and what-not.

Lots of love from Greece,

Laura

Good morning!!! Forgot to respond here. Thanks for calling @ your safe arrival (I immediately wrote everyone) and especially for writing here (since there is time for more detail)!! Such a relief to know you've arrived safely and to hear your voice. Several people asked at church. One funny: Emily was excited about the possiblity of you getting 100 euros for your missing luggage. I quote, "Then she can start buying stuff for me!!" I tried to explain again you needing clothes & the basics, but she was convinced you would have plenty left to have a souvenir spending spree!

After three days I finally got to this page where I could email you. First it told me Mimi was already in use (that is why Mimi Marie) then it told me my email address wasn't reckonised. Third time is charm because I got here. Glad you arrived safely and I will be waiting to hear what you are doing. Is your cold better? It sprinkled here but is still very dry. I went to Georgetown with my neighbors (one of them had to see a doctor there). We went shopping and ate lunch with Bert. Zane has his first baseball game of the season tomorow. Love YOu, Mimi

Hi, it's Mema again! Just read Mimi's post. Kinda interesting to see what others are saying. We can't wait to hear more about what you are doing - that is, BESIDES wandering the halls saying, "Wow!" and "walking by the Aegean." We are all getting tooooooo jealous! Emily is lying here on the red couch NOT going to sleep because she's NOT sleepy AND she's not "comfortable" because when she lies facing one way, she's seeing a wall and the other way the globe and she's not looking out the door. She's going to be VERY uncomfortable when I plunk myself down on her!!!!! Ooops, she' lkg. over my shoulder and will know my secrets. She says tell you her tooth is getting VERY LOOSE. Actually, I think it's hanging by the proverbial thread. Since she is now reading aloud what I am writing and doesn't know "proverbial," I THINK IT'S TIME I'M GOING TO SIT ON HER!!!!! (That got her jumping back into bed! :) Enough of this nonsense. Nighty-night. Write soon. Love, Mema

I think this thread has deterioted a little!!! Laura, you must write something soon and give us something new to comment on! We finished our recordings tonight with the Russians. As you can see from above note, the girls are spending the night in R.R. because of the recordings. I had tho't it would be nice to give them a gift to remember us so I bought them WillowTree angels (at Family Christian Bookstore; Hannah has one in her collection) and wrote a nice note (I think) for us to all sign. They were touched, I think. At the end of the evening Kostya gave each of us 2 CD's of their music in Russian. We are glad to be done. It was tiring. G'night or g'morning, whichever.
