Today we toured Big Bend National Park. We enjoyed the great views, the windy roads, and even the deer family we saw in the woods, but we're sorry to say that we think we've been a little spoiled from all the other mountains we've seen. Still, we're very surprised that such an environment exists in Texas. Being a weekday afternoon, there was virtually nobody in the park, which gave it an empty, eerie feeling. But it was nice to have it all to ourselves. There is some very strange plant life in this area and the most open roads we've seen in the country. We found a hotel in Alpine, waited for dark and headed for Marfa to see the infamous Marfa Ghost Lights.
Supposedly, these lights are seen above the horizon off the highway at nightfall and have been seen for decades, but their source has never been identified. Well, Team Edwards identified them. We're convinced that they're merely headlights from a distant mountain road. In fact, it's pretty darn obvious. Of course, you don't have to take our word for it.
In fact, even more mind-boggling than the Marfa Lights has to be the Marfa Prada art project. The Prada shoe company created a faux store, right off the highway in the middle of nowhere. From a distance, we assumed the lonely structure was a border patrol station, but as we drove past it, we were surprised to see high-dollar shoes sitting in the window. Our advice is to google "Marfa Prada" and see what articles you find. We'll let the experts explain it.
