Opened in 1920 by King Sisowath, the National Museum contains artifacts from all regions in Cambodia. Many of the Khmer artifacts have been plundered throughout Cambodia’s colonial history, but the National museum retains a few important works including the statue of Jayavarman VII, a 13th century king who saw the invasion of Cambodia by the Mongol forces under Kublai Khan.
