More information on Tserkov' Vladimirskoi Ikony Bozhiei Materi (Our Lady of Vladimir Church)
This tiny little church has been under heavy restoration and wood scaffolding continues to conceal the building and bags of stones, piles of wood and containers of plaster take up most of the space on the ground. Step around this mess and go inside. Inside you will find a fantastic chandelier in the shape of a wedding cake dripping in gold hangs from the ceiling. A church has stood on this spot since the time of Peter the Great, and the original wooden incarnation was rebuilt several times. According to legend, a dying Peter the Great blessed his daughter the future Empress with the icon, Our Lady of the Sign, for which the church was consecrated.
