More information on Lundi Gras
Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, the following description may no longer be accurate. Please consider this when making your travel plans. Lundi Gras, or 'Fat Monday,'is the day before Mardi Gras. This old tradition started by King Rex in the 19th century has been revived over the past decade. This free, outdoor celebration takes place at the Spanish Plaza and has become more of a warm up party for the big Mardi Gras that takes place on the following day. The party includes music, food and the Zulu king and queen arriving by boat. This event is a bit more tame than Mardi Gras, so families tend to feel more comfortable here. Admission is free.
