More information on Center for Southern Folklore

After bouncing between various locations on or around Beale Street for the past 10 years, this offbeat treasure that's part coffeehouse/part folk-art flea market has landed in Pembroke Square, one of downtown's prime addresses. Warm and welcoming, it's a laid-back space where you can get a meal or some munchies, sip a latte or a beer, surf the Internet, or buy anything from books, CDs, and postcards to handmade quilts, outsider-art creations, and even cornhusk dolls and corncob pipes. Best of all, you can hear the Delta's most authentic roots musicians performing at almost any time of day. Better yet, it's a nonsmoking venue. (At press time, the center was about to expand with a new retail store and cafe being added at 123 S. Main St., right along the trolley line. The Center's performance space and museum will remain farther inside Pembroke Square, at 119 S. Main St.) Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice.
