Petofi Bridge extends beyond the curve of the Nagykorut (large ring road), linking it to Buda. Rather nondescript in design, it is nonetheless a functional necessity, connecting Boraros ter on the Pest side with Goldmann Gyorgy ter. It was originally built in the 1930s, destroyed by the Nazis in 1944 and reopened in 1952. It is named after Petofi Sandor, Hungary's most beloved poet and a hero of the Hungarian War of Independence, during which he was killed in 1849.
