Description

Covering 20 square kilometers, this hilly island is the only other inhabited island besides Langkawi. Located about five nautical kilometers from Kuah, it is also known as the 'Islamic Island' because all the residents here are Muslims. Lush, tropical vegetation covers the island, which has six villages linked by mini tar roads. Although provided with facilities like power, telephones and a freshwater supply, the villagers still prefer to maintain their traditions and simple lifestyles, like drawing water from the wells. The island is accessible by a 20—minute boat trip from Kuah.
