Completed in 1943 on the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth, the Jefferson Memorial is located on the shore of the Tidal Basin of the Potomac River, north of the National Mall. The building consists of a 54-column-encircled dome, with a 19-foot bronze statue of the third president and inscriptions from famous works and speeches inside.
