Ullevi has hosted scores of international sports and music events. Inaugurated on 17 September 1916, this stadium has seen it all. Split into two parts, the Gamla Ullevi stadium or Old Ullevi is used by popular locals clubs for football matches. The bigger one (Nya Ullevi), used as a venue for mega events only, opened in 1958, just in time for the Football World Championship. Since 1982, Nya Ullevi has staged some major rock and pop concerts; the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, U2 and AC/DC have showered the spectators with their best here. Sports fans have witnessed the World Cup, World Athletics Championship games, the European Championships, over 54 international fixtures, three-plus World Cup qualifiers, and seven-plus UEFA Cup finals here! The arena has top-class standards in terms of comfort, technical features and services. For concerts, Nya Ullevi admits about 25,000 people in the inner yard, and an additional 20,000 on the rafters.
