More information on Lincoln Memorial
Located on the western side of the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial is one of the most important landmarks in the United States. Completed in the 1920s, the temple-like building contains a 19-foot marble statue of the famous president, facing the reflecting pool across the façade. To the sides of the statue are two inscriptions, one of his Gettysburg Address and the other of his second inaugural address. The memorial is famous as a location where protests, rallies and speeches have been held, including Martin Luther King’s March on Washington in 1963.
