World-famous Golden Gate Park is San Francisco’s largest green space and the largest urban national park in the world, covering over 1,013 acres which makes it larger than New York City’s Central Park. In it you will find a wonderland of lush foliage, towering trees, expansive green lawns, lakes, ponds, and streams, and more things to do that you ever thought possible within one park. There’s the Japanese Tea Garden, a five-acre landscaping marvel with sculpted trees, koi ponds, Japanese architectural structures, and tea served under a pagoda. There’s the Botanical Gardens, a great place to learn about species from around the world, Stow Lake where you can rent row and paddle boats, Spreckles Lake with its toy yacht races, Kezar Stadium with countless sporting events and a running track, the Conservatory of Flowers, one of the world’s largest, the De Young Museum and the Academy of Sciences (due to re-open from renovations in 2008), and so much more. Bicycling and roller bladingare popular, especially on Sunday when the park is closed to traffic. The park hosts countless free outdoor concerts as well. A city icon, people enjoy this park every day of the week.
