More information on San Niccolò al Carmine
It is difficult to imagine, that when this monastery was first built (in the middle of the 18th Century), that the Carmelite monks could ever have conceived that it would eventually be used as a university. However, this is exactly what has happened. A large part of the monastery is occupied by the Department of Chemistry. The church dates back to the 18th Century, but it was renovated at the beginning of the 16th Century by Baldassarre Peruzzi. The interior has one nave and has preserved its 18th Century structure and still possesses a second altar on the right containing the beautiful San Michele by Domenico Beccafumi. The cloisters are enchanting.
