Varsity calls itself "the student pub", but like many West Street venues it is frequented by all and sundry. Housed in spacious, custom-built premises on two floors, the extensive use of glass and metal gives the place an airy, modern feel. Banks's bitter and Kronenbourg are served on draught and there's also an extensive all-day menu (snacks are available from around £3 and main courses such as beef and ale pie are about £5). The pub can get very busy in the evenings, but during quiet daytime periods the comfy sofas make it a relaxing place to linger over lunch or a drink.
