Description

This church is one of a small group of religious buildings that can be said to have seen the dawn of two milleniums. It dates from the 12th Century and is located in Piazza Tolomei, who were one of the most famous families of Pisa. The remains of two of the family, Celso and Tolomeo can be found here. It was completely renovated in the 13th Century and now has a brick façade, subdivided into four columns and adorned with two statues that date from the 19th Century The interior has one nave and the left altar has a lovely Madonna with Child and Saints. On the main altar is Beato Bernardo Tolomei, sculpted by Bartolomeo Mazzuoli in 1693. To the left of the church, in Via del Moro, is the entrance to the cloisters which were built in the 17th Century and restored in 1921, and are now an exhibition space.
