More information on Iolani Palace

Located in the capitol district of downtown Honolulu, Iolani Palace was home to the only official royalty in United States history. Completed in 1882 by King David Kalakaua, the building's 3-story architecture resembles Italian Renaissance design. The monarchy fell in 1893, but the building was eventually restored, and now attracts over 100,000 visitors a year. Aside from the architecture itself, the building also contains a gallery with ancient regalia and crown jewels. Guided tours (maximum 20 people at a time) run all day, though tourists must wear booties to avoid damaging the floor!
