More information on Alcatraz

Taking a tour of Alcatraz Island is one of the quintessential San Francisco experiences. Located in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, this rock island holds important history from Civil War fort to the infamous Federal prison to the Native American rights movement. Now managed by the National Park Service, day and night tours offer travelers the experience of walking through the empty prison cells that once housed the country’s most notorious criminals. The award-winning audio tour provides a more complete experience, including monologues by the inmates and the eerie sounds of bars slamming shut through echoing halls.
