More information on Chekhov House-Museum (Dom-Muzei A.P. Chekhova)
The museum was founded in 1912 and opened to the public in 1954. The famous 19th-century Russian writer lived here with his family from 1886 to 1890, during which time he produced the novel ‘Ivanov' and a large number of short stories. All this while working as a practicing doctor! Chekhov's private room, his brother and sister's rooms and the sitting room are all restored to their original state. In other rooms of the house there are original editions of Chekhov's works and manuscripts. The main exhibit illustrates the writer's life and includes many of his personal belongings.
