More information on Berkeley Castle
Berkeley Castle lies 21 miles outside of Bristol, halfway between Bristol and Gloucestershire. It has been in the Berkeley family since 1153 and is famous for its medieval architectural style. The castle has survived nine centuries with its interiors, estates and town. Built in pink stone that glows softly in the sunlight it was built to keep the Welsh out of boundaries with the help of features such as the arrow slits, huge barred doors and murder holes. The castle also houses the archives which include over 20,000 documents and manorial records. The castle also houses an unusual collection of bedspreads, banners, paintings, ceramics and silverware.
