In a part of town with more pubs than anywhere else in Prague the "Shot-out Eye" is perhaps the most well-loved and certainly the most famous: so much so, in fact, that the BBC's Prague correspondent recently referred to it on air as his favourite pub in town. The name refers to the one-eyed Hussite leader Jan Zizka whose giant statue looms on the hill above. The secret of its success is more than just its good cheap beer and food as a joie de vivre exists here more than anywhere else. For those not wishing to imbibe, there is a new tearoom and when it's warm outside the raucous beer garden (facing a busy railroad track) is open for business. This pub is essential to Prague's identity as the castle.
