Want to experience genuine New Orleans history and get pleasantly creeped out at the same time? Cemetery #1 is New Orleans oldest and most famous cemetery, serving as the final resting place for some of the city's most famous and infamous residents. Visitors are encouraged to join a group tour to see the over 700 tombs, tomb ruins, and markers. One highlight is the Barbarin Family Tomb where one of the city's most famous families of jazz is buried. Other famous folks resting in peace here are Marie Laveau, a famous voodoo queen, and Ernest "Dutch" Morial, the city's first African-American mayor.
