A celebration of coffee in a land where tea has always been the dominant non-alcoholic beverage, Kafe Marko aggressively markets its brew, giving the customer a tantalising choice of dark concoctions to select from. Both the local sweet tooth and alcoholic bent, (coffee with cognac is popular), are catered for here, thus luring a bustle of customers who claim tables with either their coats or companions before joining the queue. It's a softly lit interior with no loud radio or live music to impede conversation and the custom it attracts shows there's nothing necessarily predictable about how Russians spend their leisure time.
