More information on Assistens Kirkegård
Assistens Kirkegård is Copenhagen's biggest cemetery. It was originally a place where smaller churchyards were located, as well as being a churchyard for the poor. Today it is open to all citizens. Celebrities, such as H.C. Andersen, Søren Kierkegård, Jens Juel or Martin Andersen Nexø are all buried here. There are plans to turn the churchyard into a park, as the local people already use it as a place to meet with their loved ones or to sit in the sun in the summer. Please refer to the website for timings as they are seasonal.
