“The Girl from Ipanema”, the Grammy-award winning Bossa Nova tune from the mid-60’s, was composed or at least inspired in this very bar. The song was produced by poet Vinicius de Moraes and musician Antonio Carlos Jobim. Legend has it that the two friends were regulars of the bar and wrote the song about a striking young woman who stopped by the Garota de Ipanema everyday to buy cigarettes for her mother.
