More information on Alcock and Brown Landing Site
History was made on this spot on 15 June 1919, when pilot John Alcock and navigator Arthur Brown flew from Newfoundland to Ireland in just over 6 hours. They crossed the ocean at a speed of approximately 120 mph in a Vickers Vimy plane, which is small and fragile by today's standards. A monument commemorating their arrival stands at Derrygimlagh Bog near Clifden. Walk along the path to the original landing site and savor the moment.
