More information on Ramadan

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide fast from dawn till dusk and abstain from worldly desires. With the majority of locals being Muslims, the spirit of Ramadan is felt everywhere. Few restaurants open at lunchtime, nightspots close early and the streets become somewhat deserted during breaking-fast time. Shopping-wise, prices of goods, especially food and clothes, escalate. Bazaars sprout throughout the city, selling takeout food, prayer garbs and so on. On the third week, a mass exodus occurs as residents, Muslims or otherwise, return to their hometowns.
