More information on Medicinal Botanical Gardens (Aptekarskii Ogorod Botanicheskii Sad)
These lush, 6.5 hectares in north-central Moscow were first developed in 1706 as a plantation of medicinal herbs for army use. The founder of the farm Tsar Peter I planted a larch here which survives to this day. An willow aged over 300 years is the oldest tree in central Moscow. Its collection now contains some 3,000 species, about 200 of them in an arboretum occupying half of its land. One of the two hothouses here holds a grove of tall tropical trees.
