More information on Palacio de La Salina
This palace, which used to be a saltworks, is close to Plaza Mayor, as you go down Calle de San Pablo. It's said to have been commissioned by Archbishop Fonseca for his lover, María de Ulloa, in the 16th century. The perfectly proportioned façade has four arches with decorative relief moldings, including one featuring Cleopatra. There's a lovely Renaissance Gothic courtyard with big corbels, with naked people on top of one another. It was thought that they were mocking Salamancan nobles. The courtyard is lit up on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free.
