Description

The largest of 8 islands off the Malaccan coast, this is a rare spot of tranquility and silky white beaches amply served by an international class hotel and several beach huts operators. All of 133 hectares, it abounds with modern sporting options, including an 18-hole golf course, a yacht club, and facilities for parasailing, wind-surfing, snorkeling, fishing and even island-hopping. On more mythical dimensions, the island is closely associated in folk legends with mermaids, princesses, sacred shrines and tombs, making it all the more romantically appealing. To get there, catch a 45-minute boat ride from either the Shahbandar jetty or the jetty behind the State Tourist Information Centre.
