More information on Chiang Saen

As you travel northeast from Chiang Rai, you will arrive at a bustling border town beside the enormous Mae Khong River. The people here actively engage in fishing, farming and weaving, and sell exquisite handwoven fabrics in the local markets. Some tribal villages (Hmong and Yao tribes) still exist in the area, so this is your chance to witness their traditional way of life. Just across the river is Laos, easily accessible by boat. Foreigners should check with the Immigration or Tourist Police for entry regulations. Though it is possible to make this a day trip, it would be much less demanding to return to Chiang Mai the following day.
