Standing at a crossroads of Commuterville (Charing Cross), Theatreland (St Martin's Lane), and Tourist town (Trafalgar Square), you'd expect Chandos to be extremely busy, which is what you'd find. It deserves the attention, though, for its imposing architecture, wooden interior and cheap beer. There's also an upstairs bar - the Opera Room, which, furnished with large, comfy sofas and glass-top tables, is equally busy. There's an extensive selection of beers and, of course, the standard selection of wines and spirits to boot. Just don't go there for a quiet drink.
