More information on Eglise Sainte-Croix
In the center of the village of Celleneuve (now engulfed by the surrounding city) stands one of Montpellier's oldest churches. Constructed during the 11th Century, this Romanesque church also bears the result of renovations and fortifications carried out during the 12th Century. Standing at a distance from the walled city, the church managed survive the troubles of the 16th and 17th Centuries - which destroyed so many religious buildings in the historic center of Montpellier - relatively unscathed.
