Gas Works Park, a 19-acre public park on the shore of Lake Union, is one of the best examples of large-scale reconditioning in the United States. For 50 years, the site was home to a gasification plant used to convert carbon products into fuel. Today, it's a popular recreation area in which the industrial structures are now playgrounds and a hill made from excavated materials is used to fly kites. It sounds like a strange place to have fun, but the 50,000 people who come just to watch the Fourth of July firework certainly seem to have a good time!
