More information on Anniversary of the Founding of Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta was founded by Don Guadalupe Sanchez Torres on December 12, 1851. The place was named "Las Peñas," and the excellent location promoted its rapid growth. Nowadays, the local authorities celebrate the historic occasion by featuring concerts and activities in the amphitheater located in the Malecon. The concerts feature contemporary music to entice the eager crowds that gather to celebrate, and the place usually livens up with contests and local vendors offering all kinds of local treats. Entrance is free. It is worth a visit because the activities are usually targeted at local residents.
