More information on Government Camp
This community was settled in the late 1800s by homesteaders fresh off the Oregon Trail. Soon it became a popular resort area and base camp for hikers and climbers brave enough to tackle the glacier resting atop Mt. Hood. Restaurants and hotels were established as early as the 1920s, opening up the area to tourism, which continues to thrive as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and backpacking enthusiasts flock to enjoy a bit of natural recreation.
