Presumably the name was selected to initially attract the student clientele, which usually fills the pub. This bar has a dark, moody atmosphere, and attracts a younger crowd. The music selection is mainly chart-based and played at top volume. The Thirsty Scholar is only a minute's walk from O'Connell Street in the city centre.
