More information on Menil Collection
The centerpiece of the Houston museum district houses the private art collection of John and Dominique de Menil. The museum opened in 1987 and holds over 15,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs and books collected since the end of WWII. Magritte, Picasso and Matisse are among the modernist artists on display, while medieval, tribal and ancient Greek works can also be seen. Outside of the main museum are complex buildings, such as a chapel with dark paintings, the chapel museum with international art, and a neon-lit hall.
