More information on Juneteenth
Celebrating the importance of the Emancipation Proclamation to the black community in the United States, and specifically the day when Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army entered the city of Galveston on June 19, 1865 and officially proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas, Juneteenth has been wholeheartedly embraced by the thriving black communities in south Berkeley. Celebrate freedom and the artistic and historic contributions that blacks have made to the country during this day long festival chock full of live music, food, art and dance. Admission is free.
