Many of the rooms in this homey hotel in the heart of town have been gutted and totally rebuilt within the past 2 years. New furnishings include the Scandinavian colors of yellow and blue, while others have a crisp Nordic look of cream and pale blue. A private sun deck is tucked away among the rooftops. The real Miss Maud, Maud Edmiston, wants guests to feel they are in a European family hotel like those in her Swedish homeland, and she succeeds -- in part due to the staff, which is more polite and on the ball than that in most AAA-rated five-star hotels. The breakfast included in the room rate is a fabulous buffet at Miss Maud Swedish Restaurant downstairs.
