More information on Patterson's Spade Mill
Patterson's Spade Mill is the last surviving water-driven spade mill in Ireland and is now run by the National Trust. All of the original machinery is intact and the mill is still producing garden and turf-cutting spades on a daily basis. The guided tour will show you how such spades are made, while spades made from the mill are on sale as souvenirs. Interactive educational programs on subjects like farming in Northern Ireland in the 1940s are run in conjunction with local schools and there's an excellent exhibition area in the reception area.
