More information on Buddiiskii Khram (Buddhist Temple)

This is not just the only Buddhist temple in the city, but also a unique architectural monument. It was built according to the design of a well-known architect, G.V. Baranovskii. Works on the temple began in 1909 and was completed in 1915. The walls of the temple are completely covered with a roughly hewn reddish granite. The main three-story building is joined to a four-story tower, on top of which is mounted a copper-gilded adornment, the so-called "ganchzhir". The temple is incredibly colorful, but at the same time enigmatic and full of intriguing symbolism.
