Open for over 50 years, the National Air and Space Museum is one of the most popular Smithsonian institutions in the United States. The museum features a large collection of aircraft and spacecraft from different period in history, including the original Wright Brothers plane, the Sprit of St. Louis, and the Friendship-7 space module. The museum contains so many large craft (including the space shuttle Enterprise) that a second building, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia, was commissioned. Admission to both buildings of the museum is free.
