More information on Tozenji Temple
The first British legation was housed here in this Zen temple in 1859, headed by Sir Rutherford Alcock. The temple is famous for an incident in 1861 in which the legation suffered an attack by a group of anti-western samurai. Sword nicks and bullet holes from the British retaliation are still visible on the hall building. Admission: Free
