Dating back to the mid-14th century, Goldegg Castle was once home to medieval princes and knights. It was converted into a culture and congress center in the 1980s and is now the region's biggest events venue outside Salzburg, putting on numerous concerts, films, seminars and lectures. The musical highlight of the year is the Blues and Folk Festival which takes place in the courtyard of the castle every June. The two-day festival attracts some great local bands and an enthusiastic crowd of music fans. All proceeds from the festival go to a local charity for the mentally handicapped.
