More information on Maghain Aboth Synagogue
When the Maghain Aboth Synagogue was opened in 1878, it became the first place of worship for the growing Jewish community in Singapore at that time. Its simple exterior belies an interior that has been designed with much care. The Victorian style is coupled with marble floors, large shuttered windows with teak and rattan pews. Regular services are still being held today. The institution was gazetted as a national monument in 1998.
